Scillus Terms of Service
This Agreement is intended to support fair and transparent collaboration between researchers and Scillus, and to help ensure the traceability and quality of research illustration workflows.
1. Parties and Scope
This Terms of Service ("Agreement") is entered into between Scillus (website: https://scillus.app, contact email: connect@scillus.app, referred to as "the Platform") and registered individual or institutional users who use the scientific illustration functionalities (referred to as "you").
By using any feature of Scillus, you are deemed to have carefully read and agreed to all provisions of this Agreement. If you are acting on behalf of a team or organization, you confirm that you are duly authorized to accept these terms and to communicate them to relevant members.
2. Services and Academic Use
Scillus provides services such as algorithm-assisted scientific illustration, data visualization templates, and collaborative annotations, with the aim of helping researchers produce accurate and reproducible figures.
We reserve the right to modify, upgrade, or discontinue specific features from time to time and will provide reasonable prior notice where practicable. Experimental features may be released as beta versions, in which case stability and performance characteristics will be separately disclosed.
3. Accounts and Access Control
You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and must not transfer, lend, or sell your account to any third party. If you discover or suspect unauthorized access, you should notify us promptly at connect@scillus.app.
Where we detect violations of this Agreement or security risks, the Platform may take measures such as suspending, restricting, or terminating accounts, and may pursue further remedies where appropriate.
4. User Responsibilities and Research Compliance
You must ensure that any content you upload or generate is lawful and compliant, and does not infringe the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or research ethics obligations of any third party. For sensitive experimental data, you are responsible for performing appropriate anonymization and obtaining any required approvals before uploading.
You are solely responsible for liabilities, losses, or disputes arising from misuse of the services. If your actions cause damage to the Platform or to others, you agree to bear the resulting responsibilities and costs.
5. Intellectual Property
Scillus and the models, algorithms, interface designs, visual assets, and other materials it provides are protected by intellectual property laws. Without our prior written consent, you may not reverse-engineer, copy, or create derivative works based on the Platform.
You retain rights to the data you upload and to outputs that are lawfully generated from that data. With your explicit permission, the Platform may use anonymized results for purposes such as model training, benchmarking, or academic demonstrations.
6. Paid Services and Credits
Some advanced features may require credits or subscriptions. Before making a payment, you should carefully review the plan details, duration, and refund rules. After payment is completed, the system will automatically allocate credits or activate the subscribed features for your account.
If the services cannot be provided due to events beyond our reasonable control or due to policy changes, the Platform will offer compensation or refunds in accordance with the applicable refund policy.
7. Limitation of Liability
Scillus takes reasonable measures to maintain the continuity and security of the services but does not guarantee that the services will be free from temporary interruptions or defects. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for losses caused by events such as force majeure, failures of third-party systems, or network disruptions.
To the maximum extent allowed under applicable law, the total liability of the Platform arising out of or related to the services will not exceed the fees you paid to the Platform for the service giving rise to the claim during the most recent billing period in which the event occurred.
8. Effective Date, Changes, and Termination
This Agreement takes effect when you first use Scillus. If we make material changes to important terms, we will publish an updated version at https://scillus.app and may notify you through in-product messages or other reasonable means.
You may request to terminate the services at any time by contacting support. Termination does not affect your obligations with respect to fees already incurred or responsibilities arising from prior use of the services.
9. Dispute Resolution and Governing Principles
If a dispute arises in connection with this Agreement and cannot be resolved through good-faith negotiation, the parties may submit the dispute to a competent court or, where agreed, to arbitration. The specific approach to dispute resolution will be determined in accordance with applicable law.
